Trident Task Force: Youth-Led Advocacy and Education

The Trident Task Force is the youth sector-led division of the Burke Substance Abuse Network (BSAN), dedicated to fostering education and advocacy among young individuals. This initiative empowers youth with the tools, knowledge, and support necessary to lead drug-free lives. Guided by principles of education, prevention, and community engagement, the Trident Task Force is committed to promoting holistic well-being and mental health among young people.
The Trident Task Force hosts monthly meetings designed to provide youth with essential information on substance use, mental health, and overall well-being. These events feature our staff and Trident Task Force youth having real conversations about issues that affect them. Offering valuable insights about today’s challenges facing our youth, we can equip them with knowledge, empowering them to make informed decisions and resist the pressures of substance use.

The Trident Task Force organizes monthly events that foster connection, education, and support among youth and the broader community. These events include activities chosen by the youth. Burke Recovery provides funding and supervision of these events. We encourage our youth to be creative in their ideas and we support their decisions. Through these activities, the Task Force creates a vibrant platform for dialogue on substance use prevention, mental health awareness, and the promotion of healthy lifestyles. Community members not only gain valuable knowledge but also contribute to a collective effort to build a safer, healthier environment for everyone.

In its dedication to fostering Drug-Free Communities, Burke Recovery prioritizes life skills development as a cornerstone of its prevention efforts. The life skills curriculum is offered to middle and high school students in Burke County and is a critical aspect of the prevention program that goes beyond treating addiction; it prepares our youth for a healthier, more independent life, giving them the confidence in their ability to sustain recovery and thrive in the future.

The School Intervention Program (ScIP) is designed to provide education and treatment resources to students throughout Burke County. It is a referral-based program that identifies students that have violated tobacco, vape, alcohol, or substance use policies of Burke County Public Schools. Once the referral is made by the school administration, our Adolescent Prevention Specialists will engage the student with the ScIP Program. By identifying and addressing issues early on, ScIP helps prevent the escalation of substance use and related problems. This program works closely with schools, students, and parents to provide the guidance and resources necessary for students to succeed.

Keep Coming Back
The journey of recovery is ongoing, and “Keep Coming Back” is a reminder of the importance of persistence and community support. This principle underscores the value of continued engagement in recovery activities, meetings, and support groups, which play a vital role in maintaining sobriety.
Progress Not Perfection

In the journey of recovery, striving for progress rather than perfection is essential. “Progress Not Perfection” is a principle that encourages individuals to focus on their growth and improvement, recognizing that perfection is an unrealistic and often discouraging goal.

One Day at a Time
The journey of recovery is often daunting when viewed in its entirety. “One Day at a Time” is a guiding principle that encourages individuals to focus on the present moment and take recovery step by step. This approach fosters a sense of manageability and allows individuals to celebrate small victories, which cumulatively lead to significant progress.
We Do Recover
