In 2014, over 275 runners gathered in the pre-dawn darkness up on Jonas Ridge, ready to start a 26.2 mile run through the beautiful Pisgah National Forest. Since 2006, Peak to Creek has been one of the top qualifying events for the Boston Marathon. In 2013, BCACD became both the official hosts and the beneficiary for this popular event.

Many volunteers are those who are in an active program of recovery and are experiencing their first opportunity to give back to the community. “It’s pretty cold out here this early in the morning, but it’s great to see the smiles on the runners faces as they passed the aid station and to know that they see me as someone worthy of a good life!”

Overall race winner was Brian Sharbono from Deland, FL, finishing the event in 2 hours, 40 minutes, and 51 seconds. Margaret Brennan from Fairview, NC was the first female to finish, coming in at 3 hours, 3 minutes, and 14 seconds.

Those who placed overall and in all age categories are listed on the Lee Timing website under 2014 event results.

Many thanks go out to David and Rhonda Lee of Lee Timing for their tireless dedication as well as to the enthusiastic race day volunteers, without whom this event would not be possible. Huge amounts of planning and coordination was also carried out by Lisa Moore, BCACD board president. BCACD board members and staff, as well as Flynn Recovery Community residents and graduates, made the setup and aid stations possible, promoted the event, and hosted a pre-race spaghetti dinner Friday night. These efforts have gone far year after year, and we look forward to continuing to bring this event to our community.
